Half of U.S. Mobile Subscribers Prefer Smartphones

According to a recent study conducted by Nielsen, a global marketing and advertising research company based in New York City; smartphones are rapidly dominating the U.S. market where almost half (49.7%) of U.S. mobile subscribers currently own smartphones as of February 2012. This represents a huge 38% leap over last year’s 36% and according to the study more than two-thirds of those who acquired a new mobile device in the last three months chose a smartphone over a feature phone.

On the other hand, Android OS continues to lead the smartphone market in the U.S., with 48%; followed by Apple iOS with 32.1% and Blackberry with 11.6%. Within the last three months, 48% of those surveyed in February have chosen Android, 43% chose iPhone and 5% chose Blackberry.
